Shots fired at KwaMashu tote
Updated | By Bernadette Wicks
Police are investigating after shots were fired at a KwaMashu tote yesterday morning when two men tried to rob a cash-in-transit guard.
It is alleged they accosted the guard while he was walking to his vehicle but that they fled after he opened fire on them.
Police spokesperson Thulani Zwane says a case of attempted robbery has been opened.
"It is alleged that at around 10 o'clock, the security guard went into a shop and collected money - carrying a cash box - and while he was proceeding to his vehicle, he was approached by two suspects who grabbed the cash box and fled. It is alleged that the security guard started to shoot towards the suspects, they dropped the cash box and it exploded. They then fled. There is no-one who was injured during the shooting and there are no arrests made at this stage." he says.
