This as shoals of sardines make their way northwards along the province's coastline.

The sharks board has already removed all the nets between Isipingo and Port Edward - the southern most point on the KwaZulu-Natal coast.

The board's Mike Anderson-Reade says the 2018 sardine run has already outshone recent years.

He says there has been a lot of activity at Scottburgh beach today. Shoals are expected to reach the Warner Beach area, near Amanzimtoti this afternoon or tomorrow.

Newswatch's Shaun Ryan chatted to Anderson-Reade just after 11am this morning. Listen to the full update below:

He says there was a sardine frenzy between Park Rynie and Ifafa Beach yesterday.  He expects the fish to make it to Durban later this week.

Anderson-Reade says some crates of the fish were being sold for around R1,200 at the weekend but prices should normalise to R600 a crate.
