Pioneer Foods, at the weekend, recalled a batch of the 330ml cans after consumers found small shards of glass inside.

The NCC says the majority of the affected stock was not distributed.

Acting Commissioner, Thezi Mabuza says Pioneer Foods is investigating how this happened:

"Part of our engagement with them and also further investigation that they need to conduct from their side. They have to inform us as to how did they get to know about it," said Mabuza.

Was there anybody that consumed it or is it through maybe their safety checks because what we had picked up already is that some of the products are already in the consumers' hands.

"Hence then, the need we should do an immediate recall. So, we are still waiting for that immediate information."

Mabuza said people who brought this specific batch of Liqui Fruit must not drink it.

She says you go need to go to the retailer where you bought the product.

"You don't have to have a receipt with you because most of us, we normally throw away the receipt," she said.

"So, you go there with that product. All that they will do is that they will refund you."

The affected products have the barcode 6001240225592 printed on the side of the 330ml cans.

The National Consumer Commission says they have the following date coding: Date code BB 01.04.2021 C TIME and BB 02.04.2021 C TIME.
