Shallcross residents irate with water supply issues

Shallcross residents battling with an intermittent water supply and stoppages say they are running out of patience.

Resident Pam Singh says taps in the community, south of Durban, ran dry a week ago. 


Some sections are experiencing low water pressure.

"It is so terrible in this Covid time you need to bath, clean be regular. It is so difficult, my daughter stared school and had to put the urn on and it's difficult for us. 


"I am also quite weak and keep taking out the boiling water into a bucket, walking to the bathroom then you must go look for cold water. We got a JoJo tank but that only supplies for the toilet and maybe washing clothes. 


"I sent a bundle of my clothes to my daughter's flat so they can wash because we can’t' use our machines." 


eThekwini says there've been disruptions in parts of Shallcross, Klaarwater and Pinetown due to a major leak on a 750mm rising main from the Northdene 3 pump station that supplies the Shallcross reservoir.

The municipality says engineers are still busy with repairs and are trying to restore the water supply in Durban's southern parts by Friday.
