Sewage crisis in eThekwini needs technical skills boost – President Ramaphosa

President Cyril Ramaphosa has suggested a technical skills boost for eThekwini to fix Durban's so-called sewage crisis that rendered many of the City's beaches unswimmable for weeks.

Almost two dozen beaches were closed to the public over pollution concerns and after high levels of E. coli were detected.

Ramaphosa touched on the issue in Parliament, during a Q & A session yesterday.

"What we need to harness and bring together is the skills. And I can give you a good example of another municipality in the Free State, Matjhabeng, where the wastewater treatment plants also broke down, many of them - well over 80 percent. And all that the new mayor needed to do, was to bring in skills."
