Several Departments looking into the suspension of a teacher in Nquthu

The KZN Education Department has announced a trauma debriefing intervention for all learners and teachers at a school in Nquthu - where a video of a teacher having sex with a pupil surfaced last week.

This after one of the learners involved in yet another sex video, tried to commit suicide over the weekend.

Last week, the department sent psychologists to assist the pupils who were believed to have been victims of the teacher.

The department's Muzi Mahlambi says the intervention unit will start its work sometime this week.

"Last week it was a unit from our department, but we are reinforcing it with the Department of Health, and Department of Social Development - so that they can collaboratively go together to look into the situation and advise and do whatever the protocols that are there in terms of dealing with this matter," he said.

Mahlambi says the department has also been informed of the existence of similar videos to the one that surfaced last week, leading to the immediate suspension of the teacher involved.

KZN police say the accused teacher remains at large.

He faces charges of statutory rape and sexual abuse.

Meanwhile, the NPA says three more sexual offence charges have been added to those already faced by a former Scottsville Primary School guidance counsellor.

The 31-year-old man allegedly took boys between the ages of four and nine to his office, where he allegedly sexually abused or raped them.

He was arrested this year after parents came forward expressing concerns about the kind of games being played during therapy sessions.

The NPA's Natasha Ramkisson-Kara says the accused appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court today.

"The matter was remanded to September 21 for further investigation. The accused remains in custody as bail was denied on a previous occasion," she said.
