Senior government officials set for Mthwalume visit

Senior officials from the provincial and national government are heading to Mthwalume this weekend following the discovery of at least five bodies there in the last four months.

They were all women - and their bodies found dumped in sugarcane fields.
Two of the bodies were discovered on consecutive days this week.

The local community is convinced a serial killer is behind the murders. Police say they haven't ruled this out.
KwaZulu-Natal Community Safety MEC, Bheki Ntuli says they'll be meeting with residents in Mthwalume.
At the same time, a gender education specialist says the national lockdown has left women from poorer communities even more vulnerable.
She was speaking during a webinar on policing during the lockdown, UKZN's Dr Bronwynne Anderson said women were being let down by the system.
