Security regulator slams abuse of shoplifting suspect
Updated | By Nothando Mkhize
The Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority has launched an investigation into the assault of a suspected shoplifter at a store in Pietermaritzburg.
This follows an incident caught on video and circulated on social media this week.
In the video, Sandile Ngcobo can be heard pleading for forgiveness and saying he'll pay for the items.
Security officers can be seen taking tubs of peanut butter, which were stashed under the clothes he was wearing.

While the video only surfaced this week, its now known the incident took place three weeks ago at one of the retail stores in Pietermaritzburg.
PSiRA has since condemned the act, saying the security officers shouldn't have used force, and instead should have apprehended the suspect while waiting for the police.
The company that employs the security officers involved, has requested that they not report for duty, pending an official suspension.
