Security officer shot dead in Durban CBD armed robbery

A security guard has been shot dead in the Durban CBD.
The police's Thulani Zwane says the guard had chased after suspects who had robbed someone on Dr Yusaf Dadoo Street.
"While the suspects were running away - it is alleged that one of the community members attempted to apprehend the suspects. The suspects shot and killed this man. A case of murder as well as robbery will be opened at the Durban Central Police Station.
"We believe that the man shot and killed was a security guard but we are still waiting for confirmation. There are no arrests made but the vehicle used by the suspects was found later," he says.

Rescue Care's Garrith Jamieson says the guard was shot several times.
"He was assessed on scene and was found to have passed away before paramedics arrived. He was declared dead on the scene. At this stage, events leading up to the shooting are unknown however, SAPS is in attendance and they will be investigating further," he says.
