Garrith Jamieson, who's with ALS Paramedics, says the guard was badly hurt.
"Paramedics raced to the scene and on arrival were shown to one of the guards who had sustained a serious gunshot wound to his lower body.
"The guard was found to be in a critical condition and was stabilised on scene by advanced life support paramedics before he was rushed to a hospital for the urgent care he required. The SAPS and all necessary role players are in attendance and will be investigated further."
On Tuesday, one person died in the Durban CBD after being shot in an apparent cash-in-transit robbery.
