Search underway for illegal mining operators in KZN

A search has been launched for those behind an illegal gold mining operation in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
There was a raid at a mine shaft in Kortnek in Pongola on Tuesday.
Equipment used for crushing material, explosives, cutting torches, gas cylinders and mining tools were found.

Provincial police spokesperson Thenjiswa Ngcobo says eight cell phones were also recovered.
"Investigations are still continuing as police are still searching for the suspects who fled the scene as well as those who are behind the illegal mining operation."
