Search resumes for missing tourist off Umhlanga beach
Updated | By Sandile Zikhali
The search for a tourist, presumed to have drowned while swimming at a beach in Umhlanga Rocks, continues this morning.
Rescue teams suspended their search for the Congolese man yesterday afternoon due to bad sea conditions.
He was swimming at Bronze Beach in the morning, when he was caught by a rip current and swept away.
The National Sea Rescue Institute's spokesperson Craig Lambinon says sea conditions worsened during the search.
"The sea search itself was suspended after three and a half hours of searching due to unfavourable sea conditions. A shore patrol and ongoing operation continues. Our thought are with the family at this difficult time. The police have opened an investigation into the incident," he said.
