Schoolboy killed in Phoenix pedestrian crash

A schoolboy has died after being hit by a car on the R102 near Phoenix, north of Durban.
The 15-year-old had allegedly been trying to cross the road near a housing complex when he was struck by a car this morning.
Reaction Unit South Africa says the driver of the vehicle, believed to be a local teacher, was taken to hospital for further care.
Police say a case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
Spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says officers at Verulam SAPS are investigating.

Meanwhile, a separate crash on the N2 near the Clare Road bridge, also in Durban, has left more than a dozen people hurt.
Rescue Care's Garrith Jamieson says around 15 people were treated on the roadway before being taken to hospital.
"More ambulances had to be dispatched to assist with the scene," he said.
Four vehicles, including two taxis, collided on the southbound carriageway at around 7.30am.
The crash caused major traffic delays heading towards the city during the morning peak.
