Scathing response to Ramaphosa’s SONA ‘no surprise’ – analyst
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The scathing response to President Cyril Ramaphosa's State of Nation Address comes as no surprise.

Political analyst Dr Imraan Buccus has been sharing his views following the SONA debate in Parliament over the past two days.
"I think in large parts that kind of negativity stems from the disastrous levels of governance we have in the country, especially in terms of load shedding that we have seen over the last few years and I think it is pretty clear that the ANC, close to 30 years of liberation, is fast moving to the periphery and I think this is in line with what happens to liberations about three to four decades after liberation."

He says the declaration of a state of disaster over Eskom's energy crisis was among the top points argued.
"We have seen a confusing response, for example, from the DA. The DA was a party that wanted the state of disaster, but of course, now has come up with a critique of the state of disaster.
"I think the DA, however, is correct in its critique that Ramaphosa created an unnecessary further layer of bureaucracy and what South Africans want is for the lights to work."
