DA leader John Steenhuisen was not impressed by Cyril Ramaphosa's announcement of a new Minister of Electricity.

"Instead of removing the incompetent Ministers of Energy and Public Enterprises who block reform, he added yet another ministry to his bloated cabinet.

"By once again expanding rather than shrinking the role of the state, the president has all but guaranteed that load shedding and all the other terrible crises we face will only get worse."

The IFP's Narend Singh sounded a warning to the president for having repeatedly pointed out that South Africans were resilient in his speech.

"If the promise of South Africa is truly alive, it is thanks to the resilience of our people, but how far is this government is willing to test our resilience? We are playing a dangerous game if we do not address the concerns of South Africans."

During Thursday's SONA, EFF MPs were removed from the chamber after repeatedly disrupting proceedings and storming the stage where the president was seated.

At Tuesday's debate, party leader Julius Malema said they had started instituting a motion of no confidence against National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula for how she handled the situation.

"As a result, we have already submitted a motion of no confidence against Mrs Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula and we officially withdraw our honour we previously issued her.

"We also apologise for having showed her honour when she evidentially does not respect parliament. Under no circumstances should a democratic Parliament be intimidated by the state security forces."
