SA’s Covid-19 deaths continue to increase

South Africa has recorded a further 370 Covid-19 related deaths, bringing the total fatalities to 70 388.

The latest data released by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) shows there were 7 773 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours.
A total of 36 721 tests were conducted on Tuesday, bring the positivity rate to 21.2 %.
Since the start of the pandemic in the country, 2 391 223 laboratory-confirmed cases have been recorded.
Gauteng is still the leading province with 2 324 new cases identified on Tuesday.

The Western Cape recorded 1 580 new cases, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 1 246 cases.
There has been an increase of 650 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours, with 16 441 people currently admitted in both private and public facilities.
On the vaccine front, 225 808 vaccines were administered on Tuesday.
