SARS pays out R19 billion to taxpayers

The South African Revenue Service says it had paid out about R19.8-billion in tax refunds to individuals by the close of the 2017 tax season.
Non-provisional taxpayers had to file their returns by Friday.

The figure represents an increase of 26%.

SARS spokesperson, Sandile Memela says the R18.5-billion was paid out to some 2.2-million taxpayers.
"This directly contributes to household income and the domestic economy," he says.
