SAPU: Not allowing cops to go on leave during festive season against law
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
The South African Policing Union says police officers who are due to go on leave during the festive season will take it.
It has been pushing back after Police Minister Bheki Cele said that all boots will be on the ground during the upcoming holidays.
Speaking at the launch of the Safer Festive Season Campaign launch in Limpopo on Thursday, Cele said officers would only be allowed to go on leave in January.
But SAPU's Lesiba Thobakgale says this is against labour laws.

"This is not the first time we are dealing with the festive season. There are always members present to work during the festive season period. “
"As SAPU, we are against the grandstanding and the PR exercise that is being done by the police minister and speaking recklessly about the leave which forms part of the terms and conditions of the employment contract of our members."
