Santaco accused of dragging its feet over high fuel prices
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
A spokesperson for taxi drivers has pointed a finger at taxi organisation Santaco, saying it's deliberately failing to put pressure on government over the high fuel prices.
Santaco has said it won't mobilise for now as it's still holding talks with government and stakeholders.
Addressing workers at a Cosatu-led march against fuel prices in Durban on Friday, Qina Mshayeli's Clerment Doncabe slammed Santaco for failing to act.

"Santaco is dragging their feet because there is nothing much that is instructing them.
"That is the reason they are not rushing or putting pressure on government to make things happen because there is no pressure. People who have pressure or problems are the taxi owners who are always on the roads."
He also said the fuel increase will put more pressure on taxi drivers.
They often have to meet daily profit targets set by their employers who don't take fuel increases into account.

"That situation as it makes them to be [low-income earners], reckless, and they are are always tired because of the system as it is not good for the workers," said Doncabe.
"Sometimes they sleep on the ranks for them to get an early load so that they can please their bosses."
