Sanral ‘won’t be deterred’ from pursuing transformation, vows CEO
Sanral CEO Reginald Demana hit back at the road agency’s detractors, saying it won’t be deterred from pursuing transformation in the sector.
The agency briefed the media on Wednesday on transformation in the engineering and construction sectors.
“The management of Sanral will continue to engage all our stakeholders, including construction companies,” said Demana.
“But we will not be deterred from the vigorously pursuing transformation of the construction industry of which we are an integral part.”
The entity has recently come under fire from some quarters for its new preferred procurement policy.
The policy would ultimately challenge the BEE scoring system, with some major construction companies stating that they would be placed at a disadvantage in securing big tenders
.
This has resulted in H&I Construction and Wilson Bayly Holmes-Ovcon (WBHO) challenging the new system in court.
Board chairperson Themba Mhambi said Sanral will always make decisions that benefit all South Africans.
"But what we want to state openly is that as Sanral, we are determined to make sure that the resources at our disposal benefit all classes of our society. They benefit every South African. We do not benefit one class of society. Transformation is a constitutional imperative, and we shall drive it for as long as we are the governing structure of Sanral."
