Lady R: DA challenging Mojapelo appointment ‘undermines country's interest’
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
President Cyril Ramaphosa's office says it stands by its decision to appoint deputy judge president Phineas Mojapelo to spearhead the investigation into the Lady R incident.

Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya has expressed confidence in the probe.
The DA's challenging the Gauteng judge's appointment in court, calling it unconstitutional.

Magwenya says Ramaphosa carefully considered his decision to appoint a judge to head the panel.
"It is politically motivated court action. The DA wants to undermine the country's national interest. Failing to appreciate the importance of resolving this matter in a manner that is credible and expeditious.
"The DA is failing to appreciate the damage this issue has caused to our economy and potentially to very important diplomatic relations, which are now repaired."

Ramaphosa said earlier this month that Russia's Lady R ship docked at Simonstown to deliver equipment ordered by procurement company Armscor for the SANDF.
This was after the US accused the country of secretly shipping arms to Russia.
