Thembinkosi Ngcobo allegedly went on a shooting spree while looking for his girlfriend - leaving one woman dead, and three other people hurt.

Ngcobo surfaced from the holding cells below of Criminal Court B looking calm and at times smiling when looking at journalists and those present in court.

The State's Sipho Nzimakwe initially asked Magistrate Zenzele Mchunu for a postponement, saying the State was not ready to proceed as they still have other charges to add to those Ngcobo is currently facing - including kidnapping and attempted murder, among others.

The defence's Paul Jorgenson opposed any postponement - saying this would mean his client would have to spend more time than they deem necessary in custody.

Jorgenson added that for every day his Ngcobo's bail application was postponed, his client would incur further legal costs.

He insisted the matter be heard today - even if it meant finding a vacant court that would hear his client's application.

After considering both arguments put forward, Magistrate Mchunu said the State and the Investigating Officer had more than enough time since taking on the matter to add more charges.

He said the application would be heard today - even if it meant moving to another vacant court room.

This is a developing story.
