SAMSA says port clean-up operations continue
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
The South African Maritime Safety Authority says clean-up operations following the Durban storm have continued today.

This after a cargo of plastic materials landed up in the ocean after some containers fell off a vessel during the storm earlier this month.
Millions of "nurdles" washed up on several local beaches, causing authorities to call on the public for assistance in getting them off the beaches.

SAMSA's Captain Hopewell Mkhize says a number of containers which were swept into the harbour have recently been recovered.
"Two containers contained the plastic material which has caused pollution, as a result of those containers being damaged, when they fell off from the vessel. The other two containers, one had contained energy drinks which was all recovered and the other one contained some rubber jackets," he said.

Mkhize says residents have helped a great deal.
"The other areas where the public has been assisting, they are making a difference. We welcome such a suggestive stance, as it will speed up the process," he said.
