The South African
Human Rights Commission has come out strongly to condemn the assault of a
teenage patient at the Ladysmith Provincial Hospital
The commission
visited the hospital this week as part of its investigation after a video
emerged on social media.
It says the conduct of the two guards seen beating the 13-year-old differently abled boy was cruel and inhumane.

"One would not expect any patient let alone a minor to be assaulted in a place where they have been entrusted to for treatment and care," says SAHRC provincial manager Pavershree Padayachee.
"There are many rights that appear to have been violated, some of these include the right of human dignity, the right to freedom and security of the person where one is expected to be free and protected from all forms of violence, both children and mental health users are particularly vulnerable and ought to be treated with great sensitivity and care."
