KZN hospital guards dismissed for beating patient
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
The Department of Health in KZN says a teenage boy who security guards assaulted at the Ladysmith Hospital has been moved to a healthcare facility in Durban.
Footage of the incident has spread on social media.
It shows the guards beating the 13-year-old differently-abled boy in one of the wards last week.
The National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union (Nehawu) says this kind of behaviour cannot be tolerated.
"Those who are alleged to be involved in the incident, the department will have to take action against them. As Nehawu, we don't promote our members to be involved in such unacceptable incidents," says the union’s provincial secretary Ntokozo Nxumalo.
The department says the guards have been dismissed with immediate effect.
It will also take action against the nursing staff involved
