The crowd is expected to proceed down Pixley ka Seme Street to the City Hall.

Trade union federation, SAFTU has called for a nationwide shutdown today in support of a minimum wage that's higher than R20 an hour.

The gathering venue just opposite DUT's City Campus is a growing body of red as many in union regalia trickle in.

The trade union federation is also calling for an end to job losses and the nationalisation of mines among other things.

They are expected to make other stops as they make their way down through the CBD to the city's hall.
