Nationwide march will be peaceful, closely monitored: Saftu

The South African Federation of Trade Unions will be ensuring that tomorrow's nationwide strike will not be violent, despite reports circulating on social media.

SAFTU spokesperson Patrick Craven says the march will be a peaceful one.
"Ignore any messages on social media which are malicious saying it could be dangerous to go out tomorrow - there is no danger at all. So we will make sure that nobody is threatened or intimidated to join the march," Craven said.
Craven says they'll be mobilising workers from all industries - as they look to challenge the proposed national minimum wage of R20 an hour.
"We want workers in other unions or not in any unions at all and the unemployed to join us in the marches because this is an issue that affects all workers," Craven said.
In Durban - protesters will gather at Botha's Place tomorrow morning - before marching to City Hall, the departments of Labour and Economic Development, as well as the offices of the Premier and Mayor.
