Working on Fire in KwaZulu-Natal is urging communities to prepare their homes and properties to prevent fire damage.

The organisation has been commenting after several fires required emergency services to assist in recent days.
Earlier today, a fire tore through an informal settlement in Sea Cow Lake - north of Durban.
eThekwini firefighters said just yesterday they had received an increase in the number of callouts.

Working on Fire's Makhosi Dladla says it's important for people to clear dry vegetation that could fuel spreading fires.
"Some of the fires were not going to reach the house - but because of being fuelled by plantation around the house, or long grass can spread fires - from one metre to more," Dladla said.
