The union has also raised concern about bullying among children.

Speaking after a meeting in Durban to pray for KwaZulu-Natal schools, SADTU's Nomarashiya Caluza says teachers need to resolve their issues peacefully.

"Teachers have been taught to speak out about their issues, and that is what we are encouraging. Teachers must be able to talk to one another, to resolve whatever differences and conflicts that exist in their staff rooms."

She says they are working on a plan to help schools deal with internal conflict.

"We want to take it a step further and engage the communities that we are in, the communities where our schools are and show that we will be looking at establishing structures around schools."

"These structures will include community members and religious people,"  she said.
