Sadtu to challenge the 'no work, no pay' policy
Updated | By Puseletso Petersen
Teacher's union Sadtu says the Education Department will have to first prove that teachers who were absent yesterday were at the Cosatu march before docking their salaries.
The department says it will be implementing a 'no work, no pay' policy against all teachers who did not pitch for work yesterday.
Sadtu's Nomusa Cembi says they plan to challenge this.
"The strike was protected in terms of Section 77 of the Labour Relations Act but we are expect the department to react like that because that is how they respond to marches and strikes. There are processes, it's not a blanket approach. They must prove that this one was in a strike and this one was at school," she says.
