Sadia Sukhraj's father takes the stand
Updated | By Bernadette Wicks
Sadia Sukhraj’s father, Shailendra is testifying in the Durban High Court - as the trial of the man accused of the girl's murder gets under way.
Nine-year-old Sadia was killed in a shooting last year as the car she and her father were in was hijacked in Shallcross.
One of the suspects died during the incident. The second, Sibonelo Mkhize, was apprehended by an off-duty officer at the scene.
Mkhize has also been charged with the murder of his alleged accomplice.
Dressed in a well-fitted suit and wearing an orange tie and matching pocket square as a nod to his daughter, Sukhraj looked at times to be fighting back tears on the stand.

He became emotional when he recounted arriving at the hospital and receiving the news that Sadia was dead.
At first, the nurses had told him the doctors were still working on her. But when he insisted on seeing her - the doctor had informed him that she was in fact gone.
He was then allowed to see her and describes what he saw as a lifeless body. He said through muffled tears - "I couldn't believe this child was taken away from me in seconds."
