SACP discusses SASSA crisis with ANC
The South African Communist Party and the African National Congress has held discussions on the debacle around the payment of social grants on April 1.
The alliance partners held a bilateral meeting yesterday to discuss the current state of the governing party.
According to the SACP's second deputy general secretary, Solly Mapaila, they raised 30 points in the meeting.
"There were many issues that we discussed but we can categorise them under five key points," he said.

He adds that the South African Social Security Agency debacle was one of the issues that they raised with the ANC.
"There were specific points that needed discussion, one of which is the SASSA issue that has put South Africa under anxiety," he said.
Mapaila says the ANC assured them that the SASSA issue is being handled.

More than 17 million South Africans, who are dependent on social grants, were not sure whether they would receive payouts on April 1 after a Constitutional Court ruling in 2014 that the company appointed to do the pay-outs, was appointed unlawfully. A new contract to distribute the grants has not been concluded.
The matter is currently before the Constitutional Court, which is demanding answers from the Department of Social Development.
"We will await feedback on the other issues that were raised when we schedule another meeting with the NWC," Mapaila said.
