SACP congress: Will ANC ties top agenda?
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
As the SACP prepares for its 14th National Congress, it remains to be seen whether or not calls made at the KZN congress at the weekend - for the party to cut ties with the ANC - will be echoed.

UKZN-based political analyst, Lukhona Mnguni says the disagreements between the ANC and the SACP, could lead to leaders resigning just before the 2019 elections.
"Politicians being politicians might choose not to resign. They might wait it out until they are ready on the eve of 2019 to register a political party and then resign. This is because they'll probably have two months in Parliament. That would be playing into the politics of the stomach," he said.

Mnguni believes that the SACP's call to cut ties with the ruling party is legitimate but, its decision to back Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa in the succession race is confusing.
"Cyril Ramaphosa represents everything that is an antithesis of what communists stand for. It seems the SACP has stopped taking decisions guided by principles and the moral authority of their cause," he said.
