Nzimande warns ANC over SACP, COSATU support
Updated | By Jacaranda FM news
South African Communist Party (SACP) General Secretary Blade Nzimande says the days of unequivocal support for the ANC is a thing of the past.
Nzimande was speaking at the Chris Hani Commemoration at the Boksburg Civic Centre.
"When wrong decisions are taken, we are expected to defend them as allies. No, the time for that has now ended," said Nzimande.
The SACP has been highly critical of President Jacob Zuma's recent cabinet reshuffle, accusing him of not consulting with tripartite alliance members.
The SACP and trade union federation Cosatu subsequently called for President Zuma to step down.
Nzimande said the SACP still believes this is the right course of action.
"We are of the view that part of dealing with the problems we have is that President Zuma must assist us by stepping down."
