SACP backs ANC attempt to get IEC to reopen candidate registration

The South African Communist Party (SACP) says it supports the African National Congress' (ANC) application to the Electoral Court for the IEC to reopen the candidate registration list for the local government elections.
The ANC wants the system to be reopened after it could not submit some nominations.
The party says it experienced technical glitches.

SACP leader Blade Nzimande was speaking at a media briefing following their three-day meeting on Sunday.
He said the polls are important because they're about governance closer to the people.

"We would like to see a free and fair election and we also are reaffirming our support for the ANC and alliance lead electoral list.
"Although we have actually said that we are concerned that in some parts of the country there has been some problems in the handling of this by some of the ANC structures at regional level."

Meanwhile, the Democratic Alliance (DA) and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have opposed the ANC's application to the IEC.
