IEC to publish final candidates list in September
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says the final list of candidates will be published in September.
The IEC on Tuesday announced that it received a total of 59 272 candidates for the upcoming local government elections.
Nine hundred and forty-four independents submitted their names to the IEC, an increase of 89 independent candidates from 2016.
Seventy-four submissions were rejected who were captured after the 9pm deadline on Monday night.

Presenting the candidate nominations preliminary report on Tuesday, Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo says party's will be notified of the candidates who may appear on their party list next week.
"The final list of candidates will be certified and published on 7 September 2021. This date will mark the conclusion point of the candidate nomination process and the ballot paper production process will then be able to commence."
