SABC inquiry: Ngubane denies link between himself and Gupta's

Former SABC board chairperson, Ben Ngubane, has denied that he brought the Gupta family into the public broadcaster.
A parliamentary inquiry is investigating the SABC board's fitness to hold office.
Ad hoc committee member, Phumzile Van Damme, asked Ngubane what his relationship was with the Gupta family.

The inquiry is investigating the SABC board's fitness to hold office.
"When you were Chairperson of the SABC - because it's quite clear that where you go the Gupta's follow - did you meet with any members of the Gupta family, or any representatives of businesses owned by the Gupta's?" she asked.

Ngubane told MPs that he was not comfortable answering questions regarding the Guptas.
"I did not bring the Gupta's to SABC. The whole thing came through the normal channel of news, and we approved the business plan. I was aware that Phil Molefe went to India to meet a business - because he came and sought permission to convert SABC 3 to 24-hour news, and we declined that," he said.
