Phil Molefe - the former Acting Group CEO at the SABC - has told MPs he refused to approve a half-a-million rand salary increase for former COO, Hlaudi Motsoeneng.
An Ad Hoc Committee is conducting an inquiry into the fitness of the public broadcaster's board to hold office.

Molefe testified before the committee today - saying in 2011, he was handed a letter by then board chairperson Dr Ben Ngubane in his office, to agree to the unlawful R500 000 pay hike for Motsoeneng - who was group chief executive of stakeholder relations at the time.
"And at this point, Mr. Motsoeneng stepped in and said: 'Chair, I told you that this is not our man, so I am going to Pretoria tonight,'" Molefe said.
He also told the board about how Motsoeneng met with one of the Gupta brothers in July 2011, because the Guptas "were keen to enter into business with the SABC.
Molefe says Tony Gupta wanted to sign a memorandum of cooperation between the SABC and TNA Media to have live broadcasts on its morning breakfast show.
