SA won’t be pressured into abandoning coal - Mantashe
Updated | By Lesetja Makhura
Minister of Energy Gwede Mantashe says he doesn’t believe renewable energy is the only solution to load shedding.

Speaking in Limpopo on Thursday morning, Mantashe said there are many factors contributing to load shedding, including a lack of experienced power station managers at Eskom.
Mantashe gave keynote address at Limpopo Mining, Energy and Industrialisation Investment Conference in Polokwane.
He said coal mining remains vital for South Africa's energy production.
However, there is a need to invest in renewable energy to ensure future energy supply.
“Work is underway to remove the licensing threshold for embedded generation to enable intensive users such as mining companies to produce their own electricity.
