SA reports record high COVID-19 cases in 24 hrs

South Africa recorded a daily high in new COVID-19 infections with 6 580 cases reported on Thursday.

Eighty-seven more COVID-19 deaths have been recorded by the Health Department - of which 15 comes from KwaZulu-Natal - this takes the death toll up to 2 292


The number of cases in the country now stands at 118 375.


Health Minister Zweli Mkhize says the mortality rate now stands at 1.9%. 


KZN's death toll now sits at 106.

There have been 6 590 cases reported in the province - and over 2 000 recoveries.


Nationally, there's been over 50 000 recoveries which translates into a 50.7% recovery rate. 


Over 1.4 million tests have been conducted nationwide.
