KwaZulu-Natal recorded the second highest number of murders in the country during the last financial year.
4014 murders were reported in the province during that period.
It's a 2.2% increase from the previous year.
Acting National Police Commissioner, Lesetja Mothiba says there are a number of factors that influenced the murder rate in the province.
"In KZN, 1.9% of the reported murder cases were linked to taxi violence. While this reportedly claimed the lives of 82 individuals in Gauteng. Furthermore, hostel violence was also identified as a generator of murder in KZN with 0.6% of the murders attributed to this phenomenon," he says.
