Ruptured pipe leaves Isipingo without water
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
An Isipingo councillor says repairs are being done on a burst pipe that has caused water outages in the south Durban area.
The 300 mm diameter pipe supplies the Lotus Park area.
On Wednesday night, frustrated residents had an open-air meeting with Ward 90 councillor Shad Nowbuth.
Nowbuth says repairs were going well until the plumbers were met with some challenges.
"The informal settlement that is at a point where there is a break, they have concerns that their homes' foundation will loosen and that flooding might occur. Yesterday the plumbing teams had to abandon the work. I am waiting for some reports at the moment. Negotiations are taking place between councillors and residents."

Nowbuth says he's asked for water tankers.
Community activist Mark Gounder says every month, there's a problem with the water supply.
He says permanent solutions are needed.
"Elderly residents, which we have mostly in this area, are now subject to carry a 5-litre bucket of water, even though water tankers come at times, that is a huge challenge for residents.
"I think that after last night's meeting, I am pretty sure that it is going to be escalated, and from the information we received this morning, the councillor has contacted the necessary departments."
In a statement, eThekwini Municipality says the Water and Sanitation Unit is trying to get water supply which will come through another reservoir zone.
