Research finds Durban tap water safest in SA
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
A group of independent researchers has confirmed that Durban's tap water is one of the safest to drink in the country.

The team measured the clarity of samples taken from Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Bloemfontein and Gqeberha on a weekly basis for about a month.
Through the support of lab partner Truth First, the News24 researchers found that turbidity levels in the water from Durban and Johannesburg's taps were below the level required for consumption.

The water quality in Cape Town and parts of Bloemfontein seemed unacceptable at testing points.
Researchers say there was some trouble with Gqeberha's taps as well.
"The research investigation conducted by News24 and Netwerk24 journalists, funded by Truth First, a central lab partner and a network of laboratories all over the country revealed that water turbidity levels in eThekwini were at an acceptable level," said eThekwini's Gugu Sisilana.
"Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda said this independent research study once again indicates that eThekwini Municipality is meeting the service delivery needs of its people."
