Runaway fires in KZN claim another life

Another life has been claimed by the runaway veld fires that ravaged parts of KwaZulu-Natal this week.

It brings the number of deaths to two people, after an elderly woman died from severe burns on Friday.
At least 196 houses have been destroyed in the Nkandla and uMlalazi Municipalities in northern KZN.
KZN Cogta MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi visited the areas.

He's made an appeal to national government to intervene.
"Not only did the fire destroy homes, it has also destroyed water pipes around this area, grazing and live stock. Local government is at the coalface of service delivery and they are the first point of call, therefore they need more resources."
