RTMC flags KZN for high number of drunken driving arrests

The Road Traffic Management Corporation has flagged KwaZulu-Natal- for a high number of drunken driving related arrests- this festive season.

KZN is one of three provinces that have been named.

 

The RTMC’s Simon Zwane says over four thousand people have been arrested in the country since the start of the festive season.

"Majority of them for drunken driving, others for producing fake driving licence and operating vehicles without permits so they should take care of those things before they embark on their journey.

 

"KZN, Gauteng, Western Cape have made the highest number of arrests for drinking and driving."  

 

Zwane says they’re expecting a slight increase in traffic volumes today as visitors make their way home.

 

"The South African Weather services has advised that there's rain in many parts of the country. And we were aware that some people are starting their journey back after spending their holiday along the coast and we would like to advise them to drive with extreme caution, keep their lights on, increase the following distance and ensure that the vehicle are in a roadworthy state."
