Rodgers: Attack was second attempt on Zululand councillor's life
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The DA in KZN says it believes a recent attack that has left the bodyguard of its Zululand councillor fighting for his life was a second attempt on its member's life.
Councillor Swelakhe Shelembe's bodyguard was gunned down while driving Shelembe's car on Thursday.
The party says Shelembe narrowly escaped death last year after his vehicle was sprayed with bullets.
The DA's Francois Rodgers says they believe the attack was driven by Shelembe's quest to expose corruption in the district municipality.

"It appears to be around an ethics report which he chaired which fingered the mayor and the speaker with certain dubious activities and this particular ethics committee report has yet to appear before the council."
Rodgers says he's been trying to get the provincial government to intervene.
"I have written to the premier and quested a crime indaba where senior political leaders get together with communities to try to identify the problem, which appears to be political problems and it just appears as though the ANC has no interest in trying to resolve this."
