Robust debates over airport renaming
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Airports Company SA says there have been robust talks on renaming four of the country's airports.
It's been speaking after a public hearing to discuss a new name for Cape Town International last night.
ACSA's Deidre Davids says it was a difficult meeting.
"There were nearly 800 people in attendance. The meeting was emotive - passionate representations were made and it was highly charged," she said.
She says at one point, talks had to be put on hold, when two groups began chanting.
The EFF was there with supporters, who want the airport be named after the late struggle icon - Winnie Madikizela Mandela.

However, members of the Khoi community insist the new name should pay homage to someone from the Western Cape area.
Their suggestions include Krotoa and Saartjie Baartman. Davids says the deadline for proposals is midnight tomorrow.
"It's not based on most votes, most names. There is however clear intent to obtain public sentiment," she said.
