RK Khan CEO 'redeployed' after maggots incident
The KZN Health Department says the CEO of RK Khan Hospital in Chatsworth has been removed from the facility.
It follows the recent incident in which a patient was found with maggots crawling in his mouth.
Sadek Ebrahim went to the hospital last month to be treated for gangrene.
He died in hospital last week.
Health MEC, Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu says after her visit to the hospital, she took a decision to redeploy the hospital's CEO, Dr. Prakash Subban to St Aidans Hospital in Durban.
"The decision relates to a number of interventions over the past 12 months that the department has tried to implement and instructed the management of the hospital to implement as part of the interventions of turning the hospital around and how it was working. All of those have not been implemented by the hospital management. So we took a decision that Dr. Subban be removed so that we are able to bring in a new CEO with fresh eyes who might be able to bring around the institution."

Simelane-Zulu has confirmed that the current CEO for Queen Nandi Memorial Hospital in Empangeni will be moved to RK Khan Hospital temporarily.
Meanwhile, Ebrahim's family has denied claims of neglect on their part.
DA members led by the party's spokesperson for Health, Imraan Keeka visited the family in Chatsworth this afternoon.
Ebrahim's wife, Mairoonisa Ebrahim responded to the claims while speaking to reporters.
"There are allegations that we neglected my husband. It's not true. We looked after him. We did a better job than Khan's hospital. I sent my husband to the hospital with just a red mark on his back - when I went to the hospital I saw the amount of gauze that was placed on his back - there was no place for me to take ointment and massage him," she said.
