'Ripple effect' leading to Bluff water woes

Another Durban area is dealing with the inconvenience and frustration of water supply problems.

Burst pipes and a dried-up reservoir have plagued the Bluff since last Thursday.
Many residents have been without a drop in the taps as city engineers work on the problem.

Ward 66 councillor Zoe Solomon says there are so many leaks that set off a ripple effect of issues.
"The issue is that they dig up the road, then they have to wait for the TLB that doesn't come, then they will need the parts that they don't have, then they wait for the backfill. Then it doesn't get tarred because there is no tar.
"So it is not just about we have a water leak. You are looking down the barrel of a gun playing Russian Roulette every time you decide to fix a water leak, and that is besides the bursting pipes that are bursting because of infrastructure issues."

She says another issue is load shedding which has affected the reservoir levels.
A query has been sent to the eThekwini Municipality for comment.
