Richmond Municipality commits to safety of top officials

More protection will be given to officials employed at KZN's Richmond Municipality.

This after Sibusiso Sithole, Richmond's municipal manager, and Thandazile Phoswa, the deputy mayor, were gunned down within weeks of each other recently.
Sibusiso Mkhize, the acting municipal manager, says they've put a number of measures in place to protect government officials.

He says they're now looking to fill the position held by Phoswa.
"We normally declare that there's a vacancy - because it is a political appointment. The relevant party do the necessary processes," he said.
Police are yet to make arrests in the fatal shooting of Sithole while, a 36-year-old suspect who was initially arrested in connection with the murder of Phoswa was released from custody. The investigations continue.
